BLOG -MEDIA IMPACT - Rutgers freshman Tyler Clementi jumps to death from George Washington Bridge after roommate broadcasts him having sex on the Internet - NYPOST.com

This is a sad real life tragedy which happened only last year in September 2010 and many people blame the media for this tragedy. Of course with the help of humans the Internet can be a dangerous place to be. We really have too much freedom on the internet, therefore more privacy laws should be put into place to avoid anything like this from ever happening again. Every action has a consequence and can affect different people in different ways. We all agree as human beings that our basic privacy should be respected and unfortunately for this young man, with the help of his so called friends, a web cam and the World Wide Web destroyed his life and this privilege was unwillingly taken away from him. We are all being watched at some stage or another with all of the cameras around us, an abundance of information on the internet and todays generation hacking their way into everything they can. We should stop and think, reflect on the decisions we make as every action has its consequences. The WWW can help us positively as we search for knowledge, but in this case unfortunately it was used for a not so wise move.

BLOG 1 MEDIA AUTOBIOGRAPHY

My relationship with mass media is some what a love hate relationship.  My personal experience with mass media such as books, newspapers, magazines, movies, recordings, radio television and the internet really differ.  For example, I often find myself  switching the channel when the news comes on T.V.  There are so many horrible things happening in the world today and I really cannot handle the graphic images and stories which are covered on the news.  Of course it is important to know what is going on around us, but as the truth is often distorted for somebody's benefit, its difficult to know what is really going on.  Sometimes maybe ignorance is bliss.  I think it is important to show good news on television more often!  Television was not a huge part of my life growing up and today I rarely have time or the desire to watch it.  Growing up in a large family with my grandparents looking after many children, we would often be offered the chance to watch cartoons in order to quiet us down. Contrary to today, as most parents limit their children's time spent watching television and the time they spend on their computers.  It is important to get a balance and take the good from our technologies, without abusing them.   As a child I loved to watch documentaries on different countries around the world, which made me curious about the world outside of Ireland were I grew up.  I would find myself often dreaming of myself in a foreign country and experiencing the different food and cultures.  I remember my parents and grandparents being glued to the television for the six o'clock news most evenings.  The IRA and Sinn Fein would always get a mention.  Bomb scares and attacks between Catholic and Protestants would also always get a mention.  I grew up hating the news and not wanting to listen to these things, kind of in my own little world, were I only wanted to hear about happy things.  Still in this world of my own today, its difficult to block out the reality at times.  We are bombarded by media coverage in newspapers, t.v., iphones, laptop computer etc.   I never find myself picking up a newspaper, although I will often have a peek on CNN just to see whats going on in the world.  Surely one day soon the newspaper will be a thing of the past, with all of these new technologies.  Magazines are usually filled sole with advertisements and not a lot of good reading material.  Often filled with air brushed images of beautiful women, leaving the not so beautiful in reality feeling less than important.  When in fact beauty is only skin deep.  Hopefully we can teach our children that its what is inside that really counts.  Moving onto technology,  I think it can be very difficult for todays generation to unplug from their digital technologies and instead spend some time reflecting and conversing with friends and family.   Nowadays I find it difficult to limit the time I myself spend on my MacBook and iphone.  They are practically attached to me and usually with me wherever I go.  From checking my email to twittering on twitter and facebooking.    Listening to my music of which I downloaded from itunes.  Messaging  on my iphone and calling friends and family.  It is a job in itself keeping up with all of our technologies and must also be having an impact on our health.  Unplugging from our digital world and using our technologies in moderation is key!! :)   The world has become smaller because of mass media and has both its pros and cons.
One of the pros has to be a good movie.  They are a good escapism at times especially when they end with a happy ever after!  Take the movie - The Sound of Music for example.  I loved this movie as a young girl and still love it to this day.  There are many wonderful morals to learn from this movie and does not effect us in a negative sense like those stupid horror movies.   Wouldn't it be great if everyone could have a happy ever after and the people of todays society cared less about money and power.

Although I am aiming to become a radiology technician, I would love a job in the media as a weather girl or news anchor.  I would always throw in a happy note at the end of each news cast.  :)))))

Wishing you all a HAPPY EVER AFTER.

We all need to logically question and reason with most of the stories that are portrayed in the news today. Unplug from your digital technologies people and go outside and breath some fresh air.  Converse with your friends and family and live.  Of course we are made up of many different personalities and beliefs and the mass media should be careful of this and respect each country's people and their beliefs.
