The implications of violence and the media!

Length: 7:03
Description:  How the Media glorifies and encourages violent behavior particularly in young men, often times with very negative outcomes.  Desensitizing people to violence!
Chapter 2: Media Impact, Chapter 6: Movies and Chapter 9: Television.
Quiz Question: What were the major findings concerning television violence?
Answer:
Not every child who watches a lot of violence or plays a lot of violent games will grow up to be violent.  Other forces must converge, as they did recently in (school shootings in) Colorado.  But just as every cigarette increases the chance that some day you will get lung cancer, every exposure to violence increases the chances that some day a child will behave more violently than they otherwise would.

MOVIES

My favorite movie of 2010 has to be Alice in Wonderland.  I liked it a lot as it brought me back many years to when I was a little girl, when I would read this classic story.  Once upon a time it was one of my favorites.  Sometimes when popular stories are modernized they can be a little distorted, but all of the characters lived up to their craziness and the cinematography of this modern day version of Alice in Wonderland for me was really great.  I have seen Alice in Wonderland at the movie theatre when it was released in 2010.

My all time favorite movie without a doubt is The Sound of Music.  I remember after watching it on television as a little girl, it really sent me into a world of elatedness.    The Sound of Music is a happy musical movie with many morals taught and wonderful lyrics within every song that is sung.  I bragged about it for so long that my mother finally bought for myself and my siblings and cousins, so that we could watch it on videocassette.  We would watch it over and over again, until we were able to master each part played in the movie.  To this day I still play it on my laptop when I am feeling a little sad.  This is so cute – As a child and even to this day when I am feeling sad, my mum will remind me of the song from the movie – favorite things.  In case you are reading mum; you are one of my favorite things!!!  The words to the song go something like this – “WHEN THE DOG BITS, WHEN THE BEE STINGS, WHEN I’M FEELING SAD, I SIMPLY REMEMBER MY FAVORITE THINGS, AND THEN I DON’T FEEL SOOOOO BAD!”   In my opinion, The Sound of Music is the best movie ever.  J  Gotta love it.

MAGAZINE PROPOSAL

I have a proposal for an exciting new magazine, which I believe will alter the way women think about their skincare regime overall health and wellbeing.
Name of magazine will be - HAPPY SKIN

My HAPPY SKIN magazine will contain information on Natural skincare and cosmetics, and will educate women on the importance of using natural cosmetics as almost every woman is using makeup and skin care (containing dangerous chemicals) on a daily basis and are unaware of the damage they can cause to them.  We will also touch on important topics such as exercise and healthy eating.

CONCEPT - My magazine is different from existing magazines as most of the magazines girls and women buy now are full of advertisements for BIG brand names, which are not necessarily interested in our health but rather to make BIG PROFITS.  We are solely interested in spreading the word on healthy habits and the best of the best in Natural skincare.

THE MAJORITY OF OUR DEMOGRAPHIC ARE WOMEN between the ages of 15 to 55, however we anticipate an increase of interest from male age groups between 20 to 55, as men are increasingly interested in living healthy life styles and taking care of themselves.

Competition – NONE.   I have been unable to find a magazine solely dedicated to natural skincare and healthy living and therefore I expect to do very well.

Five advertisers who you think would like to reach your readers – Dr Haushka, Weleda, De Vita, Wholefoods and Trader Joe’s.

Five articles I might include in THEE premiere issue –

TOP TEN MOST AMAZING NATURAL BEAUTY PRODUCTS

BEATY SALONS AND SPAS IN THE BAY AREA WHO ONLY USE NATURAL PRODUCTS

INCOPERATING HEALTHY EATING AND EXERCISE IN OUR DAILY REGIMES

BEAT THE STRESS

EATING FOR BEAUTY INSIDE AND OUT!

HAPPY SKIN also comes from within!

BOOKS

Many books in which I have read throughout my life had had some sort of impact on how I think.  If the views of the writer are different from my own views but more logical, then I will change my point of view.  A book which I read a few years back really did change my views on many things of which I used to get frustrated about but no longer do has to be -  The Art of Happiness by His Holiness The Dalai Lama.  This  has to be one of my favorites!  The Dalai Lama calls himself a simple monk, though anyone whom has read any of his books or come into contact with him would say otherwise.  He is an enlightened being who reminds us through many of his books how to be happy and content with the life we have and to turn any negative emotions into positive ones.  Practice compassion and altruism in our everyday life and simple things that we forget as we live our busy lives with hectic schedules.  After reading this book I genuinely felt a reinforcement of happiness and contentment.  Its the kind of book I would recommend to everyone I know and even those I don't :)

Another good book which had a huge impact on me is The Professors Daughter by Emily Raboteau.  We are caught up in the fictional world through the eyes of "The Professor's Daughter", who herself goes through many difficult times which I am sure many readers can connect to, as they are circumstances which happen in reality. The writer frequently made me laugh throughout the book and as I read on I realized that it is a roller coaster ride of funny, intimate, sad and often tragic events.  GREAT BOOK!

As I have a passion for food and health, another great book which I have read recently would have to be In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan.  This book just confirmed what I had feared about food here in the United States and often globally.  The writer - Michael Pollen offers us information and often shocking truths on the food industry here in the United States.  Of course we can come up with our own conclusions after finishing the book, but it is a great insight into the food industry.  Definitely a great read and a must read in my eyes for everyone!
